Make no mistake; the Emir of Qatar is on a roll.
What an entrance at the UN General Assembly in New York; Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani called for an Arab coalition of the willing-style invasion of Syria, no less. [1]
In the words of the Emir, “It is better for the Arab countries themselves to interfere out of their national, humanitarian, political and military duties, and to do what is necessary to stop the bloodshed in Syria.” He stressed Arab countries had a “military duty” to invade.

May 19, 2013 "Information Clearing House" -"Times Of Israel"- In a move considered aggressive by US and European officials, Russia has sent at least 12 warships to patrol waters near its naval base in Tartous, Syria.
The deployment appears to be a warning to Israeli and Western officials against military intervention in Syria’s bloody civil war, which has now claimed the lives of over 80,000 people. Russia’s increased presence in the region — which began raising eyebrows in the US three months ago — represents one of its largest sustained naval deployments since the Cold War, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

Units of the Syrian Arab army (SAA) have started a huge offensive against the foreign-backed terrorist and jihadist groups on four fronts (including al-Qusayr) yesterday. The several army units of Syria have opened up different attacks in the Syrian areas of Deraa (located in the south near the border with Jordan), in the province of Homs (Al Qusayr), in the province of Hama and also in the Bars region which is located in the region of the Syrian capital Damascus.
These operations by the Syrian army were finally strategic operations of an unprecedented scale according to some experts on the topics in the Middle East and some sources within Syria. Also the Lebanese media made the reference to operations of unprecedented scales this times.

Antakya, Asharq Al-Awsat—On the first day, the protests were small and spontaneous: two hundred people led down the main street by a man with a microphone. On the second day, they were bigger, and they circled the town center attracting curious crowds of onlookers along the way. By the third day, demonstrators were arriving in Antakya by the coach-load and Kamal Kılıçdaroğlu—leader of Turkey’s main opposition group, the Republican People’s Party (CHP)—came in person to address the gathered crowds.

The war in Syria, uninterrupted for more than 26 months now, is no longer meeting the aspirations of the US, West, and Arabs, after the crisis has entered an irrevocable stage, where reneging on it is just a failure for the states patronizing the armed groups. In the meantime, continuous efforts to ignite fights and flare up clashes have increasingly dragged the West and Arabs into the unknown, with their scheme, aiming to the downfall of Damascus, having retrograded after the achievements and strategic victories of the Syrian Arab Army which is now determining the course of the war. The scenarios of the collapse of the Syrian state system have nowadays become vanishing illusions.

We knew what was coming and so wore flak jackets and helmets. The demonstrators knew what was coming, had no protection, and still walked straight into the line of fire.
The demonstrators were predominantly Syrian Palestinians, many from the Yarmouk district of Damascus who had fled when it was taken over by opposition forces eight months ago.
Some screamed at us: "Please tell the world the truth! We don't want the fighters here, we want the army to kill them!"

Left Unity began badly, with existing left groups barred from attending, even as observers. Tina Becker reports on the May 11 national meeting KAbout 100 people attended the first national gathering of Left Unity on May 11 in London’s Ambassador Hotel. The meeting certainly succeeded in its conscious aim to be different from the various other left unity projects that have emerged over the last 15 years or so - the Socialist Alliance, Respect, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition, etc. No one organisation or group of people dominated proceedings; opposing views were heard; plenty of time was allocated to air arguments and on a number of occasions the conference (or “internal meeting”, as Kate Hudson insisted in an exchange with the CPGB1) voted against the wishes of the ‘interim steering committee’ that had convened the gathering.

Libya's long-neglected, isolated southern region has grown more lawless since the fall of Moammar Kadafi. Only ill-trained tribal militias hold Islamist extremists at bay. SABHA, Libya — Their fatigues don't match and their pickup has no windshield. Their antiaircraft gun, clogged with grit, is perched between a refugee camp and ripped market tents scattered over an ancient caravan route. But the tribesmen keep their rifles cocked and eyes fixed on a terrain of scouring light where the oasis succumbs to desert.

BEIRUT (AFP) -- Syrian troops backed by fighters from Lebanese militant group Hezbollah launched an assault on the rebel-held central town of Qusayr on Sunday, after months of fierce fighting in the area, a watchdog said.
The Syrian opposition condemned "attempts to invade" the town, which it said could render US-Russian attempts to organize a peace conference "meaningless."
"The assault on Qusayr has started. There is fierce fighting between rebels and the army around the entrances to the town," Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman said.

The tempo of events in Syria has accelerated in recent weeks. The government forces have scored significant battlefield victories over the rebels, and this has provoked a mixture of war provocations and peace offers from the US and its anti-Assad allies.
With Obama’s blessing Israel fighter jets recently attacked Syria on three occasions; in one massive air strike on a military installation in Damascus 42 Syrian soldiers were killed. Shortly thereafter Obama finally agreed to a peace conference with Russia, which had been asking for such talks for months.

CAIRO — The black flag of jihad flies over much of northern Syria. In the center of the country, pro-government militias and Hezbollah fighters battle those who threaten their communities. In the northeast, the Kurds have effectively carved out an autonomous zone. After more than two years of conflict, Syria is breaking up. A constellation of armed groups battling to advance their own agendas are effectively creating the outlines of separate armed fiefs. As the war expands in scope and brutality, its biggest casualty appears to be the integrity of the Syrian state.

AMMAN (Reuters) - The Syrian army captured a strategic southern town from rebel fighters on Wednesday after a ferocious two-month bombardment, in an advance likely to result in President Bashar al-Assad's forces regaining control of an international transit route, opposition sources said.
The fall of Khirbet Ghazaleh, situated in the Hauran Plain on the highway to Jordan, came after a Jordanian-backed Syrian opposition military council failed to supply weapons to the town's defenders.
This raised resentment among opposition fighters over what they saw as a lack of Jordanian support for their efforts to defeat Assad's forces in the region, according to rebel commanders and activists in the area.

This is an expanded version of the talk given by Moshé Machover at the March 3 London conference, ‘Reclaiming an Alternative Jewish Culture and Identity’ Let me start with a proposition that should by now be a matter of general knowledge: the totality of Jews do not constitute a nation in the modern sense of this term; nor have they been a nation in any contemporary meaningful sense for well over 2,000 years.
